Is this hygienic ?

By sheer keeping the cutlery away from the tabletop, it adds a layer of protection and safety.  By itself it will not protect one from infection but with other protective practices it  enhances safety.  In the time of washing hands, using antiseptics and plexiglass this  is an additional important protection.
